Tetris Creator Talks Multiplayer, Promises Something Really Cool in the Future

There have been a number of multiplayer modes in Tetris games over the years, but none that seem to be good enough for Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov. Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra , Pajitnov talked about multiplayer Tetris and claimed that he’s been working on it for the past ten years, and though he admits “we are not quite there yet,” he said to look for “something really cool in the future.” Pajitnov, who is the co-founder of The Tetris Company, which licenses the game out to other companies, said in the interview, “We are working on multiplayer versions for more than 10 years — I’ve been trying to design it. I should admit that we are not quite there yet.” He addressed one of the key issues with multiplayer in Tetris: You’re so focused on your own screen that you can’t pay any attention to what your opponent is doing.
