Getting The Most Out Of Your Nintendo Wii Hardware

Nintendo Wii: Wii Remote

Considering the Nintendo Wii shortage, chances are that you have worked hard to get your own. So, now that you finally have one, do you want to get the most out of it? Here are a few ways to do just that.

First, and perhaps most importantly, get some rechargable batteries and a bettery charger. Any even better solution is a charging station for directly restoring power to the batteries through the Wii Remotes.

Here’s why this is important: the WiiMote’s battery power runs dry at about 60 hours of use; less than half that time if you’re using a Nunchuk. Recharging your own batteries will save a lot of time and effort, versus running to the store to buy fresh batteries every several days, and running out at inconvenient intervals. Of course, a good recharger and batteries will also save you some money too.

Second, buy yourself some component connector cables for the Wii. It may be hard to believe, but by merely replacing the original cords, your image quality will improve dramatically. This improvement is definitely worth the twenty bucks, wouldn’t you say?

Third, for $15 you can pick up a wireless sensor bar. The cord for the initial sensor bar is weak, flimsy, and gets in the way and can get tangled in other cords. All of these drawbacks of the original sensor bar interfere with your playing experience.

Fourth, plan to get a Wii SD memory card. The Wii’s internal memory is quite roomy, but eventually you’ll need to start storing files on an external drive; especially if you want to download classic games on the Wii’s Virtual Console.

Fifth, you may want to consider buying one or more organizing cases for your Wii. These can be very helpful for keeping all of your Wii gear together, especially if you pack it from one place to another.

Sixth, the Wii controllers come in different colors that might be interesting to you. For example, you can buy a pink controller and Nunchuck combination.

Seventh, there are numerous specialty controllers designed to enhance your enjoyment and playing experience of many games. For example, you can buy a pair of boxing gloves. Also available are ping pong paddles, racing car steering wheels, the sport pack (which includes a tennis racquet, golf club, and baseball bat), laser swords, numerous guns and rifles, guitars, fishing rod, dance pad, drum pads, as well as upgrade or specialty versions of the WiiMotes or classic controllers.

Investing a little time and money into getting the best Wii hardware suited to what you like to play and how you like to play it will reap huge dividends in your enjoyment of your Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo Wii Remote Hacks: 3 Really Cool Things You Can Do With Your WiiMote

Nintendo Wii: Wii Remote

The Wii Remote (aka WiiMote) is not only a revolutionary new way to play video games, it also opens up new possibilities outside of video gaming.

One quick example is an the “WiigoBot”; which is a Lego Robot specially designed to hold the WiiMote in the upright position and flick it at the right moment in Wii Bowling. One can thus bowl a perfect game without physically playing! One may wonder why someone would want to do this; perhaps the answer is “just because they can”.

Another, perhaps more practical example, is reconfiguring your WiiMote to work as a computer mouse. There are many tutorial videos online that explain exactly how this is done.

Some of the most ingenious uses of the Wii thus far have been devised by Johnny Lee, formerly of Carnegie Mellon University and now employed by Microsoft. His contributions include an interactive whiteboard and “head-tracking technology”.

The interactive whiteboard requires only a WiiMote, a Bluetooth connection for your computer, and an LED pen. The reason this works is the WiiMote contains a fairly high quality infared camera. The end result is a whiteboard that is truly interactive. One can “draw” on it, or even move or shrink portions of it as in the film Minority Report. Lee makes the required software freely available via his website.

Lee’s head-tracking technology is another example of an outside party finding uses for technology that even the original developers did not foresee.  Lee has discovered a method for making a television display interactive with the movement of an individual person. He likens his discovery to the sensation of looking out a window. When one moves to the left or right while peering out of a window, one’s field of vision changes. The closer one gets to the window, the wider scope one sees. Lee’s adaptation of the WiiMote technology provides interesting possibilities for Nintendo Wii game developers and perhaps other applications as well.

The head-tracking technology works for reasons similar to the factors that make the interactive whiteboard possible. Since the WiiMote contains an infared camera, one merely must place the WiiMote in front of the television and pointed toward the room, and the gamer must wear a device that mimics the sensor bar. One method for doing this is retrofitting safety glasses with LED sensors on each site. The result is an interactive experience that takes gaming to a new level.

The WiiMote contains many other possibilities for new applications in business, scientific research,  and we should eagerly await what new uses that developers and researchers will invent next. These WiiMote hacks show how relatively inexpensive technology can replace applications costing hundreds or thousands more and do 90% of what the more expensive technology is capable of performing.

3 Ways To Fix The Wii Controller Motion-Sensing Issues

by Mark Galley

The Nintendo Wii is truly a revolutionary gaming system. Sure, it doesn’t possess the graphical prowess of its competitors - the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 - but what the Nintendo Wii lacks in processing power, it more than makes up with in game innovation and design. This is made possible, of course, by the Wii controller, a motion-sensing and wireless controller that provides a new way to experience and enjoy video games.

We can even say that the success of the Nintendo Wii - as it has sold thrice the number of units as its nearest competitor, the Xbox 360 - can be attributed to the fantastic game mechanics made possible by the Wii controller.

The Wii controller, however, is not without its faults. The main complaint about this peripheral is that its motion-sensing system isn’t as accurate as it should be. First party games like Wii Sports, particularly the boxing mini-game, suffer from this fault, as often, the player would throw more punches than his character would register. Legend of Zelda: the Twilight Princess, likewise suffer from failing to sense some slashing motions on the player’s end. Third party games like No More Heroes suffer the same errors as well.

But this can be fixed with a few tweaks to your setup. Consider the following tips:

- Adjust the sensor bar. The Wii controller will always be dependent on the sensor bar. Some motions depend on how high the sensor bar is mounted, while other motions depend on the angle of the same. Make sure that the sensor bar settles on the appropriate height, and the bar itself faces the position of the player.

- Fiddle with the game’s calibration. Most games, especially those which rely heavily on the Wii controller’s motion-sensing feature, provide in-game calibration. Take some time to adjust the way the game senses the Wii controller’s motion for a more accurate and enjoyable gaming experience.

- Wait for the Wii MotionPlus. The Wii MotionPlus is a first party add-on for the Wii controller that will dramatically increase its motion-sensing accuracy. Nintendo itself is claiming that the Wii MotionPlus will provide a 1:1 accuracy level, meaning, the motion of the player will perfectly be reflected in the game itself.

The Little Wii Nunchuk Controller That Could

by Mark Galley

Never before have game controllers and game systems been in sync until now.

The Nintendo Wii controller is universal, easy to use, easily portable and a whole lotta fun. This revolutionary game system has the ability to get people up and not only playing video games in a totally different way, but also encourages them to exercise. The Wii controller is simple enough for new video game players as well as the experienced ones.
People can now play video games with the Wii controller like they would play in real life. Tennis, golf, bowling, baseball and boxing come alive with this thrilling game system. The Wii remote can be transformed to look like a golf club, tennis racket or baseball bat to help the players get the look and feel of the game that they are playing. For games like Guitar Hero or Mario Cart, the Wii controller gets transformed into the car wheel or guitar and game play is taken to a whole new level.

The Wii controller brings you into the games with game play vibration and sound effects that occur throughout the game. For the first time video game players can hear, see and feel the game that they are playing with the Wii controller. It just brings game play to a whole new level.
For experienced gamers, the Wii controller brings games alive. The controller can also be changed to fit your personality with various faceplates and skins avaliable. The nunchuk option also is a new part of gaming technology. It is not used all of the time, but when it is your whole body gets a workout. With intense motion and jab like moves, the nunchuk and Wii controller keep the games on his toes.

Together they form a new set of controllers somewhat like the old.

About the Nintendo Wii Controller

by Scott Soloff

There are really many different things that you should know about the Nintendo Wii controller, and this is primarily due to the fact that the Nintendo Wii controller is unlike any other controller on the market today in regards to video games. The wireless freehand Nintendo Wii controller not only makes the games themselves easy to play, but as well it makes them more fun than ever before.

More About the Nintendo Wii Controller

As well, there are several different types of the Nintendo Wii controller, such as the nunchuk controller, which, when connected to the Wii remote, allows you to get ready as you are about to begin a journey into the most immersive, heated game play experience ever, and the nunchuk controller and the accelerometer contained within it are truly considered as being the next leap in gaming.

The nunchuk is in fact the first controller attachment that Nintendo revealed for the Wii remote at the 2005 Tokyo Game Show and what it does is it actually connects to the Wii remote via that of a long cord, and its appearance while attached resembles the nunchaku. Basically it features that of an analog stick that is rather similar to that of the one that is found on the Nintendo GameCube controller and two trigger buttons then as well.

Then you also have the option of hooking up a classic controller to the Wii remote, which is easier for many people, especially those that are already used to the classic Nintendo remote, and this also plugs into the Wii remote via a cord, incredibly similar to that of the nunchuk controller.

The classic controller cannot however be used to play games for the Nintendo GameCube, and according to the Nintendo Online Shop, the Classic Controller can only then be used with Virtual Console games and it should also definitely be noted that the GameCube controller can be used instead of the Classic Controller for playing most Virtual Console games, and the classic controller can also be used outside of Virtual Console games too.

There are many different options here that should be known about the Nintendo Wii system in general, and so if you are interested in it then you should definitely check it out further. Just remember to try it out before buying it so that you can see whether you actually like it or not.

The Basic Nintendo Wii Controllers

By Michael L Pratt

Contrary to current opinion, the Nintendo wii controllers are not as complex as thought. With good understanding & proper manipulation of angles. You will soon be blasting your enemies into another galaxy. What follows is a brief explanation of the basic controllers.

1) Remote

The remote or Wii-Mote, is the main controller for the Wii games and is used with most of the other controllers. The technology blurs the line between the familiarity of a normal remote control and a motion sensing device.

The many uses of the wii-mote in game play are almost unlimited. Your natural Arm movement can be “copied” by any character in a game you are enjoying, move for move, just by holding the Wii-mote in your hand, ( think tennis, sword fights, and boxing, you’ll get the idea).
The Wii-mote also has a vibration or rumble feature, an external extension for connection to input devices, input ports, and a speaker. A lot of technology in a small package.

2) Nunchuk

The Nunchuk, also with motion sensors, can be connected to the Wii-mote via the input enabling unique gaming. Equipped with a control stick and two buttons, you could move your character while at the same time perform command action with the Wii-mote. Compatible with both right & left handed gamers.

3) Sensor Bar

Connected to the console, the Sensor Bar allows the Wii-mote to determine distance, location, and angle in relation to the TV screen. A large part of the great technology. The sensor bar allows up to four players to play at the same time.

4) Classic controller

Available as a separate purchase, the classic controller is reminiscent of the game controllers from days past but with modern technology. With it you are able to play older Nintendo games through the Wii-Channels as well as some Nintendo game cube games, and of course the new Wii games.

You’ve read all the reviews, you know the facts. Nintendo wii game console is the #1 system world wide. wii is extremely fun and years ahead of the competition with virtual game controllers. only problem is they are very hard to get, you can get one right here, right now, just do it.

Nintendo WII Accessories Make Your WII A Complete Gaming System

by Michelle Bery

So you have decided to purchase the hottest new thing in video gaming; the Nintendo Wii. When you purchase your Wii system you will have everything you need to plug in and start playing, including Wii Sports, a game that provides a great way to learn how to use the Wii system’s revolutionary, motion sensing, controllers. However, the Nintendo Wii does not include everything you need to maximize your gaming experience, and that is why there are several must-have Nintendo Wii accessories.

The Nintendo Wii comes with one remote controller – the Wiimote – and one Nunchuk, which is a motion sensing analog controller that attaches to the wireless Wiimote. If you want to enjoy the head-to-head action of the great games included with Wii Sports, then the first of the Nintendo Wii accessories that you should consider is an extra controller. The Wii can accommodate four controllers, so fitting a second into the system is not a problem.

The Nintendo Wii is compatible not only with games designed for the Wii, but for Nintendo GameCube titles as well. If you do not have a GameCube controller already – your existing GameCube controllers are compatible – then one of the more useful Nintendo Wii accessories is a GameCube controller. Not only will that allow you to play a wider variety of games, you can also play the classic games that are downloadable to your Wii system. However, you need more than the GameCube controller to fully replicate the features of the GameCube games. Without a GameCube memory card, your progress through many of the games will be lost each time you shut down your Wii. A GameCube memory card will allow you to save your progress and play at your leisure. Again, if you have existing GameCube memory cards they are compatible with the Wii.

Speaking of classic Nintendo games, the Wii system’s Internet capabilities make it possible to download those classic games of Nintendo’s past. Downloads are not free, however, and Wii Points are the currency of choice. Therefore, one of the more useful Nintendo Wii accessories is a prepaid Wii Points card that will allow you to easily browse and purchase many of your favorite games from all of the Nintendo predecessors. However, if you plan to purchase many of these classic games it is only a matter of time before you fill the 512mb memory of your Wii system. Purchase a 1 gigabyte SD memory card and you will have all the room you need with plenty to spare!

In order to take advantage of the game downloading abilities, as well as other aspects of the Wii system’s menu functions, you need access to the Internet. That makes the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector one of the most important Nintendo Wii accessories. With wireless Internet access in place, you can use your Wii to play games, surf the Web, and coming soon: head to head virtual play!

All of these Nintendo Wii accessories add up to form an impressive array of gaming and entertainment capabilities, but without a component video adapter the picture quality of the Wii might fail to reach its potential, especially if you have a High Definition television. With the adapter in place you will enjoy a crystal clear picture which will enhance your Wii - and your Nintendo Wii accessories - so much more. And one more thing: invest in some rechargeable batteries in order to keep those wireless remote controls at peak performance!

Nintendo Wii Controllers - Better than All Other Systems

by Paul Goodguy

It is official: the Nintendo Wii is a step into the future. Its innovative design and ease of use has made it one of the best-loved video game platforms of our time. They have taken the simple on screen concepts from the old commodore 64 and turned into an interactive experience. When the Wii was being developed, Nintendo decided that they wanted to make it useable for people of all ages and abilities. Instead of the standard hand controllers that require a lot of manual flexibly to operate, they wanted to create a method that could be used by all age groups and skill levels..

Enter the Nintendo Wii controllers. Unlike other game controllers, Nintendo Wii controllers are easily held in the palm of your hand, and can be used by just moving them around, not unlike a simple tennis racket swing.

This is one of the advantages of Nintendo Wii controller is they are motion-sensitive and operate based on your movements. This is a novel concept that has really taken the gaming world by storm. It seems that we are getting closer to the virtual reality games. Only the playstation iToy add-on has come anywhere near this type of interactivity

As well as standard Nintendo Wii controllers, there are add-on controllers called nunchuks. These connect to the Nintendo Wii controllers through a cable and allow for a larger range of motion. Using both controllers, you can use both hands in a boxing match or even fire a bow and arrow. These are heaven sent for any parent, who is always tried to encourage physical activity from today’s game console bound teen

The Secrets of Wii’s Success

The Wii probably would not have been a success that it is if not for the innovative thoughts to make it stand out in the market. The Nintendo Wii controllers only need to point the controller at the screen and move it around to be part of your game. Some games require you to press a button or two while aiming at the screen, but the buttons are large easy to use.

The ease of use has made the Wii a natural choice for very young and elderly people. This helps Nintendo to expand its market that make now be interested in gaming. The Wii has even been used as a rehabilitation tool to help people regain function and upper body mobility after an accident or injury.

This console and its innovative controllers have opened up the world of gaming to an entirely new demographic and that’s good marketing!

Nintendo Wii controllers are a step into the future of gaming. The new game: Wii Fit uses a new controller called a Balance Board to read the position of your body for use with a fitness program.

We are truly seeing cutting edge game consoles appear right before our eyes. The technology that has gone into developing the Nintendo Wii controllers can be seen as the way of the future of games, and is sure to spark versions from Microsoft and Sony.

Could Nintendo Wii be the next Google? Coming from almost nowhere to become the market leader? Only time will tell
