The EFF Wants Console Modding and Jailbreaking Deemed Legal by the DMCA

Just over a year after winning several exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) anti-circumvention provisions (which saw jailbreaking cell phones acknowledged as fair use), the Electronic Frontier Foundation is now trying to expand those exemptions. This time around it’s interested in gaining something similar for those who want to mod their videogame consoles. A request for this, along with three other issues, was filed this week

Zelda: Skyward Sword and Mario 3D Land Each Surpass 500k Units Sold

The biggest Wii game launch of the year and the first big original game release on 3DS are each off to a strong start in the United States with both titles having already sold over 500,000 units. According to Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime, who spoke with USA Today , Super Mario 3D Land has sold in excess of 500,000 units since it launched on November 13

Nintendo Spent 11 Years on Three Kirby Games it Canceled

Trailer of unreleased Kirby GC game Before Kirby’s Return to Dreamland hit earlier this week, it had been 11 years since a core Kirby game was released on consoles. Hulu Plus Expands to 3DS and Wii by Year’s End

3DS and Wii were each a bit late to get Netflix support as compared with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but they do both have capable (albeit non-HD) Netflix apps. Following in the wake of Microsoft and Sony ‘s home consoles, both of Nintendo’s platforms will soon be getting support for another on-demand video provider: Hulu Plus. Nintendo today announced Hulu support would be coming by the end of the year to both 3DS and Wii.

New Wii Model Comes in Blue for Mario & Sonic Bundle

Not only does Europe get the new Wii model, it’s getting it in a new blue color starting next month. In addition to the standalone game, Mario & Sonic at London 2012 Olympic Games for Wii will be bundled with the new Wii announced during Gamescom.

Super Mario Land 2 Joins the 3DS eShop Lineup

It’s not a half-bad week for downloadable titles on 3DS. A day after getting The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition (also available on DSiWare) for free , a new Mario title for Game Boy is now available for download. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is the sequel to the already-released Super Mario Land and, like its predecessor, it’s quite a bit different than the Mario games you may be used to seeing on other platforms.

Kirby Wii is Now Return to Dream Land, Coming in October
