iPhone Hit Angry Birds Coming to Consoles

The game that has dominated the iPhone App Store for months now will be coming to several new platforms at some point in the future. During the Virtual Goods Summit in London, developer Rovio’s CEO, Peter Vesterbacka confirmed that Angry Birds will be coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. Responding to an audience question, Vesterbacka said (via Pocket Gamer ), “Yes, we’re doing PSN, Xbox, and Wii.

GameStop Discusses its Potential Impact on Digital Content Sales

Obviously GameStop has a vested interest in trying to make the direct-to-consumer scene look as unattractive as possible. Among other comments, last year the retailer suggested that there would be no addressable market for digital distribution until 2014, something that services like Steam and the many downloadable games available through the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii would all seem to refute. The company is now commenting on the digital scene again, this time trying to push the possible positive influence it could have on the sale of digital content.

PlayStation 3 Closing the Gap on Xbox 360 Lifetime Sales

Official figures from Sony have revealed that overall PlayStation 3 hardware sales surpassed those of the Xbox 360 during Q2 2010. Not only that, but the current unofficial tally from VGChartz indicates that the PlayStation 3 could be on track overtake Microsoft’s console in worldwide install base. According to the company’s latest earnings report ( via Business Insider), Sony moved 3.2 million PlayStation 3 systems between June and September

Wii to be Top Holiday Seller, Analyst Predicts

Though its sales figures in recent months may be less than we’re used to seeing, especially compared with the increased sales of both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Wii will be the top selling game console in both November and December, according to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. “I don’t think that Nintendo’s holiday season is in trouble at all,” he told IndustryGamers . “The Wii has dropped from first to third, but the new models for Xbox 360 and the launch of PS3 Move had something to do with that, and it’s likely only temporary.

Netflix App Now Disc-Free on Wii Too

Netflix has been a native application on the Xbox 360 since launch, and Sony recently announced it would be getting a disc-free version for the PlayStation 3 this week . Today, Nintendo announced its own disc-free app, bringing the convenience of streaming movies without disc-swapping to all three consoles

Tokyo Game Show 2010: The Japanese Verdict

The 2010 Tokyo Game Show may already be a distant memory as the game industry ramps up for the holiday season, but to the over 207,000 visitors who packed the Makuhari Messe for four days in mid-September, it was a fairly breathtaking event. Rune Factory Heads For PS3, Wii

Marvelous Entertainment announced in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine that a new game in their Rune Factory action/sim series is in the works. Rune Factory Oceans marks a return to consoles for the franchise, which combines Harvest Moon -style farm management with a fantasy RPG-style backdrop. The new game, which is under development at Neverland Company, is getting a simultaneous release on the Wii and PlayStation 3 February 24 in Japan — and the PS3 version will support the PlayStation Move motion controller

Wii Remote Plus Priced, Dated for Japan

Following official confirmation of the Wii Remote Plus late last month, Nintendo has now revealed the new controller will hit retail in Japan on November 11 (via Andriasang ). The new controller, if you’re still unaware, will have the Wii MotionPlus technology built in, eliminating the need for the add-on. It’ll be priced at 3,800 yen, the same current price of a Wii remote on it’s own in Japan
