The first details on Need for Speed: The Run have been released today following its debut in trailer form yesterday. The Run is indeed in development at Electronic Arts studio Black Box, as suspected, and it’ll be running on the drop-dead-gorgeous Frostbite 2 engine created by DICE for Battlefield 3 . Speculation based on yesterday’s trailer indicated the game would be more story-heavy than last year’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit which, like The Run, is a more arcade-style racing experience than last month’s Shift 2

Diablo II (and its expansion ) is quite possibly my favorite game of all time, so anytime I hear about Diablo III nearing a release, I get very excited. Blizzard is still being fairly coy about when the game will be out, but hearing director Jay Wilson describe the game as being in the ” home stretch ,” as he did in a recent interview, is surely a good sign.

After more than a month of voting by nearly 13 million people, Madden fans have decided the cover athlete for Madden NFL 12 will be Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis. Hillis faced stiff competition throughout the process; besides defeating Vick in the final round, he also received 61% of the vote when he went up against reigning Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Over a month after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that laid waste to a large swath of northeastern Japan, the nation’s game industry is starting to show signs of going back to normal. Still, the disaster exacted a serious toll on hardware and software makers. Enterbrain, publishers of Famitsu in Japan, estimated the total financial damage so far at 7.33 billion yen, or about $89.1 million — and according to at least one analyst, that figure could go up sharply if console manufacturers like Nintendo and Sony have trouble getting their factories back online

For the past week or so the web has been on fire with rumors and speculation about Nintendo’s new console, currently being referred to by some by its alleged code-name “Project Cafe” and others by its rumored final name of “Stream.” Especially now that the company has itself acknowledged the system’s existence and pointed to a giant E3 2011 unveil. It’s no surprise that people are insanely excited about Nintendo’s Wii successor — so far sources have indicated that the system will be more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3 (finally, Nintendo games in glorious HD!), and it will have a brand new control mechanism in the form of a touch-screen controller with a camera, eight buttons and two analog sticks. The system will also be backward compatible with Wii games — dare I speculate (or at least dream) that it will also up-res them to full HD
