The traditional perception of video games as being a pastime of couch potatoes and encouraging laziness is rapidly changing. The introduction of Wii Fit by Nintendo is one significant step to making the games console useful for more than simply shooting aliens or motor sports games. Wii Fit is an exercise game, featuring a range of activities to help you keep fit and healthy in the comfort of your own home, and is taking the world by storm.
The game utilities a special controller known as the Wii Balance Board for interaction with the user. This controller is capable of measuring the user’s weight and centre of gravity, and when told the user’s height can then work out their body mass index (BMI). Wii Fit then assesses your current fitness through a range of activities and works out your current “Fitness Age”. Wii Fit also adds a channel to the Wii Menu where you can easily keep track of your current fitness level.
Wii Fit contains some 40 different activities for you to engage in that are based on four exercise categories. The categories are Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics and Balance and the variety of exercises available include a range of yoga positions and techniques, traditional strength training such as push-ups and lunges, jogging and hula hoop exercises in the aerobics category and games like ski jumping and tightrope walking in the balance section.

Well, it’s a bit late for accurate estimation. Let’s just say a
lot of new games. And rather than write a separate post about each new game seen for the first time in this Nintendo media conference video, we’ll just list out every new game we see in the order we see them, with a bit of description in case you can’t figure out which is which. We’ll also point out known games for which we’re seeing the first video. Okay?
- Let’s Tap, developed by Prope, published by Sega. The sidescrolling platformer/fireworks … thing.
- Karaoke Joysound, developed and published by Hudson. We knew about the game, but this video was the first look. It’s the one with the rabbity avatar.
- Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. We saw scans of this remake this morning, and now there’s the first video.
- Taiko no Tatsujin Wii. It’s the one that looks like a Taiko game! Coming December 11!
And many Nintendo-published games for 2009!
- Some kind of memory game titled Start with 100 Words! This is the one with the video clip of the guy saying “I will remember …”
- Punch-Out!!
- Another Code (Trace Memory)
- Kensakusu, which we can’t transliterate at the moment. The one with the shooting gallery.

We’ll have better titles and more complete information when we have something other than half a second of video and tiny Japanese text to go on.

There has been quite a bit of buzz about the nintendo wii Fit which is exercise for your body. However, this home gaming console also offers some fabulous games that will exercise your mind. One of them is called SafeCracker. If you are determined to win the game without reviewing any of the cheats it is going to take you quite a while to accomplish this goal.
Make sure you have a memory card ready so you can save the word you have done. There is just no way you are going to complete this particular Wii game in one setting. It doesn’t matter if you have all day to do it either! Safecracker involves a mansion with 35 safes located in various locations throughout it.
If you love to solve puzzles and to play video games, then Safecracker for the nintendo wii may be just what you are looking for. You can move it along at a pace you are comfortable with. This game is going to be challenging though and it is going to exercise your mind. However, it will also provide you with hours of fun in a way you may not have experienced before with any video game you have played.
There are several levels for Safecracker so you can start out with the easier ones and work your way up. Make sure you read the directions though for all of the tips you can get. You don’t want to miss out on important clues throughout the game. Nintendo is keeping quite a lid on what the screens will be like for the game. What is known is that there will be tons of rooms in the mansion to go through.
It is highly anticipated that consumers will be extremely happy with this game though. In fact it is one of the most anticipated games for the end of 2008. This game is geared more for the adult age groups even though it will likely have a rating of E for Everyone. This is due to the fact that it won’t have any violence or other factors that can warrant a stricter rating.
The game of Safecracker itself isn’t new, just to the Nintendo world. So if you want to get a head start you can take a look around online to see what it is all about. You are encouraged though to stay away from the cheats for now. That can take some of the fun and excitement out of the game. It is recommended that you try it all on your own first. Of course not all consumers will feel this way and so that is a personal decision for you to make.
The anticipation for this particular game is already at a huge height. It won’t be offered by Nintendo until October of 2008. This means when the weather turns colder you can snuggle up inside and play the game. Maybe the fact that the snow is falling outside and it is dark so early won’t bother you as much when you have something else to focus on. Playing video games on the Wii can help you occupy your time until the warmer weather comes along and you can spend more time outside.
The estimated purchase price for the game is about $30 and it should be a very good investment. If you enjoy playing games and figuring out puzzles then Safecracker can be a very interesting game for you to play on the Wii. It certainly isn’t a game for those that want fast action and fast results though. This is a slower paced game for someone with some patience and plenty of logic. If you have played Safecracker on other gaming consoles than chances are you are eagerly awaiting the arrival of it for the nintendo wii. The time will go by faster than you think though as October is just around the corner.

Overlord was last year’s hit from Codemasters, a game which puts you in control of a fellow of a great many evil deeds, who in turn controls quite a few minions. The hook for this game was that while you controlled the Overlord directly in order to spread your chaos and destruction throughout the land, you had no direct control over your minions. Instead, you had to rely on specific commands you could give the Overlord, which would in turn command the minions in where to go. This often lead to some humorous battles ending in smashed pumpkins on minion heads, sheep being set aflame, and many other funny scenarios.
Climax Studios is working on a sort of prequel for Overlord which will be a Wii-exclusive release. Dark Legend plants you in the boots of the Overlord yet again, but this time in his younger days of commanding minions to bring death in destruction. Along with the new platform, Dark Legend will bring new gameplay mechanics. The game looks quite a bit like the original Overlord, which is quite the accomplishment given the Wii’s hardware compared to that of the 360, or PC. However, the gameplay has changed quite a bit. Paths in the original Overlord were pretty linear and guided you through the game, but this is not the case in Dark Legend as it has more open spaces for your to explore. Dark Legend also gives the player direct control of the minion, with the ability to point them in the precise direction you want them to go with the Wii-mote.
Aside from the controls, Dark Legend seems as if it will play quite a bit like the original game. You’ll be completing a variety of different quests in the same fantasy world, with your minions causing chaos and wreaking havoc along the way. Another great aspect of Dark Legend is the ability to choke your minions. You can pick a minion from your horde and violently choke him until his eyes glow yellow. After you let the minion go, he’ll act as a sort of rocket, which will automatically hone in on any nearby enemies and detonate on impact. As with the older game, the color of the minion will have an effect on what the bomb does when it detonates. Regular brown minions will detonate like a normal bomb, while your colored minions will have added effects such as healing and area effect explosions with napalm effects.
Overlord: Dark Legend is scheduled for release sometime in 2009.

Wii Fit will help you work up a sweat, but it’s not as smooth and fun a workout as you’d probably like, it takes the whole concept of games as exercise to a new level with the inclusion of a balance board peripheral that can tell you on the fly exactly how well–or how poorly–you’re doing with its various activities. As such, Nintendo is heavily marketing this innovative title as a mixture of fitness and fun, and for the most part it works. It’s a good alternative for those bored with the repetitiveness of going to a gym or too self-conscious to join a yoga or aerobics class.
The sensitive Wii Fit balance board The aerobic and balance activities represent the fun side of Wii Fit with 18 games to choose from. The aerobic games include hula hoops, Wii Sports-like boxing, step dancing, jogging, and more. The balance activities are what most casual users of Wii Fit will first gravitate to, and include ski jump, ski slalom, snowboarding (where you have to turn the balance board sideways), a table tilt game where you have to use your shifting weight in a Mercury Meltdown-style challenge.
Test Your Wii health Wii Fit exercises do have the potential to positively impact your health, focusing more on improving muscle tone and balance than on cardio and weight loss. What it does offer is a better way to track your weight, body mass index (BMI), and time spent exercising both within the game itself and from any other external activities, providing users with a strong anchor for a more expansive fitness regime should they have the motivation.
As a title focused on health, Wii Fit makes some fairly significant judgments about its users’ fitness. This happens right from when your Mii is first registered with the game; after inputting a date of birth and height, you’re asked to step on the balance board for a weigh-in. From the height and weight data, a user’s BMI is calculated, with the user tagged as underweight, ideal, or overweight depending on the BMI score. A simple balance test then occurs (usually involving having to shift your balance to certain areas within a time limit) before your Wii Fit Age is displayed in large numbers on the screen. Only one Wii Fit Age result can be recorded daily, although you can practice the variety of balance tests as many times as you want.
Wii exercises In structure, Wii Fit is most similar to the various Brain Training games on the Nintendo DS, with the title broken down into a series of exercises that players can do regularly to improve their health. These exercises are split into four different categories: yoga, muscle, aerobic, and balance. The yoga and muscle categories feel the most like traditional exercise, with 15 yoga poses and 15 muscle-toning moves to work through. The muscle-toning section, with basic lunges mixed in with more strenuous activities such as the parallel stretch and push-ups. You can choose male or female for your virtual trainer to guide you through the yoga and muscle exercises, giving you praise or criticism depending on how well or how bad you’re doing.

The latest version of Backyard Baseball 2009 was just released by Atari to take advantage of the Nintendo Wii Video game Controls. The wide and varied style of pitches and types of baseball hits manage to come truly well with the Nintendo Wii Wiimote. One only has to flick the Wiimote to hit the ball and use the Nintendo Wii nunchuk for on-base advancement.
The video game comes in six game modes. You can chose between quick play, a pickup game, tournament play, season play, a home run derby and an all-star game. There are several sub options within each game mode as well. For example, in season play, you can be a coach and do what a “real” coach can do.
To play the video game, use the directional pad as a batter for the type of swing you want. Next flick the Wiimote to take the swing. As in real life, timing is crucial. Hit the ball right and you be rewarded with an adrenalin rush! Miss it and it’s a Strike Out for you! And if you want to use a special hit or pitch, you have to use both the Wiimote and nunchuk. Use the “Z” button to call up the menu for the special hit or pitch. However, you can only have these option enabled in the video game when you scored enough points.
Overall the game feel is reasonable and entertaining. Audio include some baseball sound and commentary from Sunny Day and Jack Fouler wannabes. The 3D graphics are not too bad in itself…sporting some Japanese stadium themes. I would say it appeal to kids of all ages but if you wish for a more fulfilling baseball experiences then this Nintendo Wii version of backyard baseball is not for you. So long as you don’t expect the moon and the sun you be fine with this video game.
Atari could actually had done more to improve the game feel using the Nintendo Wii game control system. We are talking here about THE generation of video game playing using the Wii Mote. The realism and immersion currently is as close as it can get to the real thing before virtual reality. So far no game company had yet to fully capitalize on the Nintendo Wii control system.

Get a head with some cool tips
Fast Start
When the countdown starts wait untill the 2 fades away and then press and hold the 2 button. Remember the 2 must still be visible but fading, giving you a boost at the start of the race.
Boost when recovering from a fall
If and when you fall into something, such as water or falling from rainbow road, when you land, if you hit 2 at the moment you hit the ground, you get a temporary boost.
How about a POW Block Immunity
When you see the POW block on your screen and its about to hit you, just do the function you would normally use for a trick to create a shockwave for youself to become immune to the spin out the POW block creates (Control panel on GCN controller, Shaking Wii wheel, etc.). This can be done on both bikes and carts. All though you don’t loose speed or spin out, you will still loose the items you were carrying.
Time to Change Mii Racer weight class
Go into the Mii Channel and change your Mii drivers weight, which will cause an in game impact causing you to change weight class and have different cars, great stuff!.
Tip: Getting knocked off the course is never a good thing. It’s an agonizing wait as hoisted back into the race. As soon as you’re dropped onto the course floor the accelerator. If timed correctly (slam it as soon as you land), your kart or bike will receive a speed boost similar to the rocket start. This will reduce the wait time and helps get you back in the race as quick as possible. And…try not to drive off the course!
Don’t hit the accelerator before the countdown finishes and make sure you don’t miss the rocket start, otherwise your kart or bike suffers a burnout and will start much slower than the other racers. With practice you should be able to perform the rocket start on every single race. You can also use the countdown “beep” as timing; press the accelerator after the “2″ beeps and perform the rocket start.
