A quick look at the highlights among the games coming out in Japan this coming week, courtesy the review pages of Famitsu magazine: – Super Mario 3D Land (9/9/10/10, 38 points): The top scorer of the week seems to fulfill all of Shigeru Miyamoto’s stated goals for a 3DS Mario game, if Famitsu’s editors are any indication. “From the length of the stages to the placement of enemies and tricks to the difficulty, everything seems just right here, making for a really comfortable play experience,” one wrote. “The bits of the game that take advantage of 3D depth are a lot of fun, inspiring you to hunt around for all of the hidden stuff

Japan Review Check: Final Fantasy Type-0

A quick look at the highlights among the games coming out in Japan this coming week, courtesy the review pages of Famitsu magazine: – Final Fantasy Type-0 (10/9/10/10, 39 points): A bit of a surprise here, as the PSP FFXIII spinoff (one that hasn’t gotten a ton of hype overseas) just misses out on a perfect score. “The very serious story, which tries to get you crying right from the start, vividly portrays the fact that this is a deep, intense FF experience, something beyond just a side story,” one editor said.

New Men in Black Game to Release Alongside Third Film

Perhaps you were unaware that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were planning to save the world again. A release for Men in Black III was announced last month as May 25, 2012, and now Activision has revealed plans to launch a game around that same time

New Wii Model Comes in Blue for Mario & Sonic Bundle

Not only does Europe get the new Wii model, it’s getting it in a new blue color starting next month. In addition to the standalone game, Mario & Sonic at London 2012 Olympic Games for Wii will be bundled with the new Wii announced during Gamescom.

People Would be "Really Sick" of Resident Evil if it Didn’t Branch Out From Survival Horror

The upcoming 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations looks to be returning to the series’ roots as a survival horror series, but that’s not indicative of the direction the entire franchise is moving in. In June we saw the arcade-style shooter The Mercenaries 3D released on 3DS, and Slant Six is currently at work on Operation Raccoon City , a third-person shooter. Recent numbered games ( RE4 and 5 ) have been more action-oriented than the older games in the series
