TGS: Chun Soft’s Boss is Bullish on Dragon Quest X

If there seems to be an unusually dense concentration of Dragon Quest news on 1UP this week, that’s because the series is highly visible around Tokyo at the moment due to the incipient release of a 25th anniversary collection of the first three titles in the series. And few people know Dragon Quest as well as Chun Soft president Kouichi Nakamura, who was one of the four main creators of the very first Dragon Quest back in 1986. While perhaps not as well known as designer Yuji Horii, composer Koichi Sugiyama, and artist Akira Toriyama, Nakamura was no less instrumental in the series’ inception.

ModernWarfare3.com Dispute Ends with Activision in Control

A few months ago, it was discovered that the domain ModernWarfare3.com was not owned by Activision. Not only that, it was apparently owned by someone who’s not a particularly big fan of the Call of Duty series, and he made sure the website demonstrated that. This prompted Activision to file a complaint in order to secure control of the domain, which it has now been granted.

Dragon Quest X Subscription Confirmed, at Least in Japan

We learned a lot about Dragon Quest X on Sunday night, including the fact that it has a significant online component . After the game’s official website went live, a mention of an undetermined “usage fee” (in addition to the usual price) made it sound as if there would be a subscription required to play online. As it turns out, that’s absolutely correct — at least in Japan

Dragon Quest X May Not be Free to Play Online

The new Dragon Quest for Wii and Wii U will have an MMO-like style. To go along with that, it may also have an MMO-like usage fee. The newly-launched Dragon Quest X website has a spec sheet that lists both “price” and “usage fee.” According to Andriasang , they are both currently “TBA” (as in “to be announced”), so at least as of yet, Square Enix isn’t saying if DQX will have some sort of subscription fee that’s required to play online

Square Confirms Dragon Quest X Will be Online, for Wii… and Wii U

Square Enix demonstrated the world’s first glimpse of Dragon Quest X through a live stream tonight. As the company has previously indicated, the next Dragon Quest game will be for Wii; and, as some predicted, it will also feature an MMO-like style that expands on the multiplayer component of Dragon Quest IX . In fact, the title of the game is “Dragon Quest X Online: Rise of the Five Tribes.”
