Skyward Sword: The Director/Producer Postmortem

It seems fair to say that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a success for Nintendo, what with the largely positive reviews it’s been getting (including the requisite 40/40 from Famitsu ). Following up on last week’s interview with Shigeru Miyamoto , the Japanese magazine sat down with Skyward Sword producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi to discuss the game in further detail — here are some of the highlights: – Plotwise, Skyward Sword is a prequel to Ocarina of Time , telling the story of the origin of the Master Sword. This came about despite the fact that the game’s Wii MotionPlus support came along long after plot details were finalized

Rampage on its Way to the Big Screen

Just because a game isn’t a super-hot property right now doesn’t mean it can’t be optioned for a movie. Both Missile Command and Asteroids prove that, even if we don’t know what degree of success (if any) they’ll be met with upon being released in theaters

Bully Sequel to be Contemplated Following Max Payne 3

Last month marked the five-year anniversary of Bully ‘s release on PlayStation 2. Aside from a re-release (in the form of Scholarship Edition) on Xbox 360 and Wii in 2008 and a PC port later that year, there hasn’t been much talk of a future for Bully

Modern Warfare 3 Breaks More Records, 600k Elite Subscriptions Sold at GameStop

The launch of Call of Duty Elite has not gone as smoothly as anyone hoped. Unfortunate as that might be for both Activision and the fans who paid for access, that doesn’t mean sales have not been strong thus far, as evidenced by numbers GameStop shared today. “In the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 , we worked closely with Activision, Sony and Microsoft to pre-order and deliver nearly 600,000 instances of the Modern Warfare Elite DLC to date,” said GameStop president Tony Bartel during a conference call today, Gamasutra reports

Miyamoto On the Twists and Turns of Skyward Sword

On the eve of The Legend of Zelda’s 25th anniversary, Nintendo development head Shigeru Miyamoto takes a look back at Skyward Sword — a game that took he and his team five years to complete — and admits that development wasn’t the smoothest of processes. “It’s occasionally the case during game development that the project doesn’t proceed along as planned or doesn’t turn out as fun as expected when you make it,” he told Famitsu magazine this week.

Battlefield 3 Tops Batman: Arkham City in October NPDs

It may not have been able to top Call of Duty: Black Ops when it comes to being the most popular game played on Xbox Live, but Battlefield 3 was — at least for a month — able to take the top spot on the NPD sales charts for October. Battlefield 3 came in at “just under” 2 million units across all platforms in the United States. That’s not a terrible figure for a game released at a time where it had only five days to track in the month, but compared with today’s news of rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 selling 6.5 million units in the U.S.
