The death of Michael Jackson in 2009 brought with it a major resurgence in his music and other media. However, Ubisoft confirmed in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz that they had been working with Jackson and his family on a game “long before his death.” According to Ubisoft’s UK marketing director Murray Pannel, Jackson had been “very pro-actively” seeking a partner that he felt “could bring value.” “So this isn’t something that’s been jumped on since his death – we’ve been working on this, despite the fact that we announced it quite recently, for a long time,” Pannel said.

It’s rebranding itself UTV Ignition Entertainment under Indian parent company UTV Group, reports Gamasutra , and will now focus on the development, publishing, and marketing of “current and emerging” platforms like Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Facebook, Google Games, Steam, Apple’s App Store, and other platforms that deliver games directly to users. “The industry is moving to a place where gamers want more for their buck,” said Ignition chairman Hassan Sadiq.

Following yesterday’s announcement of the ten best-selling games in the U.S. in June, the NPD Group has released an expanded top twenty list, revealing quite a few games for Nintendo’s platforms. In all, twelve of the top twenty games in June were on Nintendo systems, with seven of those being published by Nintendo itself.
